OUR STORY

We are a small local group of volunteers in the Lake District with one common goal:
To save our native Red Squirrels and prevent the establishment of greys in areas where Red Squirrels are currently able to thrive.
Our focus areas are: Bassenthwaite Lake and surrounding small villages.

We work closely with land owners, farmers & the local community.
Whatever the weather, come rain or shine (mostly rain in The Lake District), we are always working outdoors in our spare time amongst mother nature.
We respond quickly and responsibly to sightings of grey's reported to our group, we do this because red squirrel numbers have decreased drastically due to the grey squirrels carrying  the squirrel pox virus disease (SQPVD). The virus does not affect the greys but sadly is fatal to our native reds.
Therefore, Grey Squirrel management using recognised established methods must be used.
It is an offence to release a captured grey squirrel!
