Well, here we are!
Let us introduce ourselves, we are a small group of happy hardworking volunteers, that in our spare time go outdoors and protect our local native red squirrels.
To help us become more efficient, our group is covering a smaller area within Allerdale, where we have local connections and are very familiar with woodlands, farms and folk! This covers: Bassenthwaite and surrounding small villages.
All of us have other day jobs to pay the bills, but our passion is saving the Red Squirrels and volunteering in our spare time.
The volunteers regularly check the existing Red Squirrel sights in woodlands, back gardens and forestry.
None of this is possible without you reporting sightings of reds and the invasive greys.
Well, that's enough talking now...
Time for action!
So, we are off on Squirrel patrol... Please join us? It will take the whole local community to save our reds!

Hi Shiona
Thank you very much, We have just launched our website and we really appreciate your comment and question, Its a great text to make sure it's up and working !
In answer to your question , Firstly if you have seen only reds in your garden then put up some Squirrel feeder boxes hazel nuts, sunflower seeds are a favourite.
Keep feeders off the ground to help avoid hazards of cats , 5 to 6 feet up.
Report sickly reds to your nearest squirrel group for your area which can be found on Northern red squirrels website
Also most importantly report grey squirrels to your nearest squirrel group and stop feeding if greys and reds are seen on same feeder to avoid cross contamination of squirrel pox virus desease.
Once greys are removed by squirrel groups you can carry on feeding your reds and enjoy watching them .
Hope this info helps , Please don't hesitate to get back in touch with us if you need any more advise.
